Martensville and Warman firefighters responded to a fire at the Adobe Inn in Martensville last Saturday night.
Martensville Deputy Fire Chief Dean Brooman said in a news release firefighters were dispatched to the hotel on Centennial Drive South at 11:06 p.m. February 17.
Initial reports indicated flames were showing from the second floor.
Martensville Fire Department (MFD) responded with three engines, one ladder truck and one rescue unit. Warman Fire Rescue (WFR) was also called to assist.
Brooman said that upon arrival, a hotel room on the top floor was showing heavy smoke and flames.
“The crew made an aggressive attack and they quickly brought the fire under control,” said Brooman. “Fire damage was contained to the suite of origin.”
Brooman said there was one occupant in the involved suite who at the time was unaccounted for. It was later discovered the patron was safe. One patron was rescued from the second floor by a ladder. All other patrons safely evacuated before arrival of fire crews. A primary search was completed throughout the building and everyone was accounted for.
Fire crews remained on scene until 2:59 a.m. looking for and extinguishing hot spots. After a fire investigation was completed, it was determined the cause of the fire was due to smoking.
