It’s beginning to feel a lot like… check stops!!!!!
The Corman Park Police Service will be ramping up their impaired driving check stop campaign over the next few months. While road safety is top of mind for police throughout the year, the increase in travellers, particularly those who are out celebrating the season, is one of the reasons that enforcement like check stops is necessary. Impaired driving is one of the leading criminal causes of death in Canada and it is 100 per cent preventable.
“We want people to be able to be on the road and be safe and want people to be able to go home to their families,” says Chief Ron Chomyn.
“Our message is simple, if you’re under the influence of alcohol or drugs, DON’T DRIVE. If you know you’re going to go out and participate in festivities, and you’re going to be consuming intoxicants… have a plan on how you’re going to get home.
“Clearly, we don’t want anyone driving impaired at any time, not just during the Christmas season,” added Chomyn. “But I can assure you that officers throughout the RM are actively searching and being aware of potential impaired drivers and are arresting people that we catch driving while impaired.”
Since 2011, law enforcement province-wide has turned to the public to report impaired drivers (RID) through the road safety program – where a simple phone call to 911 could save a life. Drivers are reminded to pull over safely on the side of the road before calling, or use hands free device, or have a passenger report with 911.
