Osler’s Valley Christian Academy (VCA) Lions and the Dalmeny High School Cougars both punched their tickets to the 3A boys provincial volleyball championship next weekend after coming out on top at a regional tournament last weekend. Clavet boys also qualified.

And Langham’s W.W. Brown School Vikings added a bronze medal banner to their collection after a strong performance at the SHSAA 2A girls volleyball provincial tournament last weekend in St. Walburg.

They were among several area schools competing in Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association (SHSAA) volleyball playdowns that wrap up this month.

Valley Christian Academy (VCA) hosted the 3A boys regional tournament on Saturday, November 18. VCA finished at the top of pool A with wins over Senator Myles Venne 25-12, 25-13 and Spiritwood 25-8, 25-13. Dalmeny finished at the top of pool B with wins over Maidstone 25-10, 25-10 and PACI 25-14, 25-16.The two teams squared off in the championship game with VCA coming out on top 25-22, 25-18. Both schools advance to the provincial tournament to be hosted by Unity on November 24-25.

Hepburn and Langham competed in the 2A regional tournament at Saskatoon Christian School on November 18. Both teams were winless in pool play although they battled in some very close games.

Martensville boys competed in the 4A regionals hosted by Sasaskohc in Lloydminster.  The Royals were 1-1 in pool play with a 25-20, 25-23 win over La Loche.

Warman High School boys competed in the 5A boys provincial tournament  in Prince Albert on November 17-18. Warman finished 1-3 in pool play with their win coming against Saskatoon Bethlehem 25-12, 26-24.

The girls provincial tournaments was played on November 17-18.

Valley Christian Academy Lions in action last weekend

The 2A girls tournament was hosted by St. Walburg. Langham was in pool B with Rocanville, Wadena, Gravelbourg and Carrot River. In a very competitive tournament Langham earned a hard-fought bronze medal. See accompanying photo and caption for details.

The 3A girls provincial tournament was in Indian Head and Wolseley. Waldheim and Osler VCA played in pool B.

Waldheim was 2-2 in pool play with wins over Maple Creek and Osler VCA. They lost 20-25, 21-25 to Carnduff in the quarter finals. VCA was 0-4 in pool play.

The Martensville Royals competed in the 4A girls provincial tournament in Moose Jaw.

They were in pool A with Moose Jaw Vanier, Melville, Humboldt and Lumsden. In pool play the team had a 3-1 record with wins over Humboldt 25-20, 25-15, Lumsden 25-10, 25-4, Melville 25-16, 22-25, 15-10 and a loss to Moose Jaw Vanier 17-25, 31-33.

The squad lost another close one to Meadow Lake in the quarter finals 21-25, 31-33.
