On September 16 at 8:40 p.m., CPPS conducted a traffic stop on Highway 219 near Beaver Creek after receiving an ALPR hit for a suspended driver. The driver was identified and found to be suspended from driving as per SGI. Alcohol and cannabis were located in the vehicle. The male driver displayed signs of cannabis impairment and admitted to consuming two joints within the last two hours. He provided a sample of oral fluid, resulting in a positive reading for THC and was subsequently issued an additional 21-day Driver’s License suspension as this was his second offence for operating under the influence. The vehicle was impounded for 37 days as per SGI, 30 days for being an unauthorized driver, seven days for operating under the influence. The driver was driven home by his parents.
On September 14 at 10:17 p.m., CPPS executed a traffic stop on Highway 219 near Grasswood Road. The driver displayed signs of cannabis impairment and when questioned as to his recent cannabis usage admitted to consuming cannabis recently. He provided a sample of oral fluid resulting in a positive reading for THC. Being a Novice 2 driver, with a restriction of zero tolerance for alcohol/drug consumption while driving, he was issued a 120-day DL suspension as this was his second suspension.
On September 16 at 12:42 a.m., CPPS observed a black Mustang NB on Highway 12, which appeared to be having trouble maintaining its lane of travel. A traffic stop took place on Range Road 3053 north of Township Road 382 where the driver presented with glassy, bloodshot eyes and slightly slurred speech. An ASD Demand was made and after three failed attempts, a successful sample resulted in a WARN (WRN) reading. A 72 hr DL Suspension and 72 hour Vehicle impoundment incurred. The driver was offered a courtesy ride home, but stated he would walk.
On September 14 at 11:06 a.m., on Highway 219 north of Grasswood Road, a male driver tested positive for cannabis on while operating a motor vehicle. The accused, with a DL age restriction on 21 and under – prohibited from consuming any amount of alcohol/drugs while operating, was subsequently issued a 60 day DL suspension and seven day vehicle impoundment as per SGI as he was operating under the influence with his four month old child in the vehicle.
On September 24, at 9:15 p.m., CPPS assisted Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) units with a stolen vehicle that had evaded SPS members in the city and continued southbound on Highway 11 before exiting into the Grasswood area. CPPS were advised that the vehicle had been spiked at least once within the city limits with one deflated tire; however, the driver was still fleeing at a high rate of speed, driving in manner dangerous to the public. CPPS took up a strategic position on Grasswood Road and deployed a spike belt, which was successful in deflating at least two more of the vehicle’s tires. The vehicle continued to flee onto Highway 219 before being immobilized. Both occupants exited the vehicle, fleeing on foot, but were apprehended by SPS members a short distance away.
