The Delisle Rebels hosted the Foam Lake Panthers in a hard-fought game that wasn’t decided until the final seconds on Friday, September 15.

In the end the Panthers came away with a 21-20 win.

Delisle running back Luke Gessell got the home team on the board first on a 20 yard catch and run play. Their two point convert attempt was stopped.

Foam Lake responded with a touchdown of their own. They moved the ball downfield with the running of Seth Brickshaw and Devon Govan setting up a short quarterback keeper by Logan Morrison. Foam Lake kicked a one point convert to take a 7-6 first quarter lead.

Foam Lake stopped Delisle drives with interceptions by Matteo Fedak and Logan Morrison.

Delisle ended the quarter by moving the ball the length of the field on a series of passing plays. Foam Lake dug in their heels and forced a turnover on downs at the four yard line.

In the second half another Luke Gessell touchdown restored Delisle’s lead. Their two-point convert was stopped making the score 12-7.

Logan Morrison would score on quarterback sneak and a successful kicked convert had Foam Lake in front 14-12.

Delisle responded with Nick Sundquist hauling in a 25 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Mitchell Kielo. Kielo then found the end zone on the two point convert attempt for a 20-14 Delisle lead.

With seconds remaining Foam Lake recovered a Delisle fumble deep in their own end.

Quarterback Logan Morrison escaped pressure and feathered a pass to Seth Brickshaw, who galloped the length of the field to tie the game at 20-20. A successful kicked convert gave visitors the one point win.

Delisle head coach, Ty Pylypow had praise for their opposition.

“We did not make enough plays,” said Pylypow. “They came out here with 18 guys and did what they needed to. It came down to them making one more play than what we did.”

Despite the result Pylypow  is confident in his team.

“I thought we did some positive things,” he said. “We lost 13 grade 12s last year. We have a young team. There is a good group of core players. Yes, we are young, but the expectations are still high. I see us being a good team, one that makes mistakes early and once we hit our groove will be off and running.”

The Rebels travel to North Battleford to play John Paul II on Thursday, September 22 and will host a night game against Humboldt on Friday, September 29.
