Streetlights are being installed on 16th Avenue North in Martensville in conjunction with re-paving of the street

A long-awaited set of street lights will be installed this month on 16th Avenue North in Martensville’s Lake Vista neighbourhood.

Installation of the lights, including one at the intersection of Main Street and 16th Avenue, marks the final phase of a larger project that began in late April. Over the past several weeks, water and storm drainage infrastructure was installed, requiring the road way to be dug up.

Five new streetlights will be installed prior to re-paving the street. While four of those streetlights are the responsibility of the developer, the city will bear the cost of the fifth streetlight slated to be installed at the intersection of Main Street and 16th Avenue North.

Martensville City Council voted at its regular meeting on Tuesday, June 6 to allocate a total of $15,404.59 to pay for the streetlight. Since the cost was not included in the city’s 2023 budget, the required funds will be drawn from the city’s reserves.

The overall project is expected to be completed within the next few weeks, and 16th Avenue North will re-open as soon as the work is done.
