The Martensville Fire Department (MFD) responded to a Structure Fire on 2nd Avenue North in Martensville on Sunday, March 19  at 10:27 a.m.

According to Martensville Fire Chief Kurtis Dyck, the fire originated in a basement furnace room. Damage was extensive throughout the whole house.

Dyck said everyone was able to evacuate the house prior to fire crews arriving, thanks to smoke detectors alerting the occupants.

MFD crews responded with two engine companies, a rescue truck, and a water tanker.

The first-arriving crews reported smoke showing.

Crews entered the house and encountered heavy smoke and heat. They were able to make their way to the basement to find the seat of the fire. Crews remained on scene to do salvage and over hall of the structure and crews did have to return for a small flair up.

Fire originated in the basement furnace room, however, the actual cause remains undetermined at this time.
