For the love of kids……..

For every ride in a car, make sure your child is securely strapped into a car seat. Make sure the car seat is properly installed and meets all current safety standards.Always place children 12 years and under in the back seat and never in seats with front air bags. Children sitting too close to a deploying air bag can be seriously injured or killed according to Transport Canada.

A child should remain rear facing until one year of age. Be sure to read your manufacturer’s instructions to assure a proper child restraint.

As of June of 2014, it is law in Saskatchewan that children must use a booster until age 7, weigh 36 kgs (80 lbs.) AND stand 145 cm (4’9”) tall.

Only after all three requirements are met, can a child move to using the vehicle’s seatbelt system alone. An incorrectly positioned seat belt over a child’s abdomen can cause the child to be seriously injured or even killed in a collision.

If your child is under 7 and isn’t in a booster seat, you’ll be fined $175. This is the same fine as not wearing a seatbelt or failing to have a child properly restrained in an infant or car seat.

If fined, you’ll lose three points under the Safe Driver Recognition program.
