A vehicle fire on Highway 11 on March 13 was brought under control by Warman firefighters

Warman Firefighters and Warman RCMP officers responded to a vehicle fire in the southbound lanes of Highway near the south entrance to Warman shortly after 6:00 p.m. on Monday, March 13. The vehicle was a newer-model Ford F-150 pickup truck.

The fire forced the partial closure of the southbound lanes of the highway while firefighters battled the flames. The fire created a thick plume of dark smoke that fortunately did not blow across the path of northbound vehicles.

The fire was brought under control at about 6:20 p.m.

Warman Fire Chief Russ Austin said the occupant of the vehicle was travelling south on Highway 11 when he noticed smoke in the cab of the truck and managed to pull over to the side of the highway and call 911. The driver was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene and released.

Austin said this is the third vehicle fire that Warman Fire Rescue members have responded to in the last two weeks.

Warman RCMP are investigating.
