One man was taken to hospital with serious injuries as a result of a collision between an SUV and a semi-trailer unit on Highway 14 about 2.5 kilometers west of Saskatoon on Wednesday, April 13.
Warman RCMP, Asquith Ire Department, Saskatoon Fire Department and Medavie Ambulance responded to the collision, which occurred at about 9:15 a.m. near the intersection of Highway 14 and Range Road 3071.
The impact of the crash resulted in the SUV ending up in the ditch. The adult male driver of the SUV, the sole occupant, was trapped inside the vehicle and firefighters had to use extrication tools.
The driver of the semi did not report injuries.
Warman RCMP blocked the highway at the collision site and re-routed traffic for several hours while a Saskatchewan RCMP Collision Reconstructionist conducted an investigation.
Saskatoon Fire Department officials said they received a call from the Asquith Fire Department at 9:21 a.m. on April 13, the Saskatoon Fire Department (SFD) was requested by Asquith Fire Department to attend a motor vehicle collision with a patient trapped. Dispatched to the scene were a fire engine, a rescue unit and the Battalion Chief.
On arrival, SFD supported Asquith Fire by setting up scene safety and removing one patient that was trapped in the SUV.
Asquith Fire attended to the driver of the semi.
At 9:43 a.m., by using a hydraulic cutting tool, SFD removed the patient from the vehicle and patient care was transferred to the ambulance service.
SFD remained on scene to assist Asquith Fire with cleaning up fluid leaking from the semi. Firefighters cleared the scene by 10:52 a.m.
Warman RCMP remained on scene for several hours to continue their investigation
