The Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) Economic Crime Section has received multiple files in recent weeks of scams targeting the night time staff of Saskatoon retail stores and businesses.

The scammers call the night staff/management and convince them that their store manager has authorized a shipment or payment of some sort, and that payment is urgently required.

The scammers may claim to be calling from corporate headquarters and threaten that the store will be closed down if payment isn’t urgently made. Payment is requested via gift cards or Bitcoin.

The SPS would like to remind Saskatoon businesses that all staff should confirm any authorizations for payments with their manager and payments requested via gift cards or cryptocurrency are most likely a scam.
