The Warman Minor Hockey Association continues to provide opportunities for female athletes of our region to compete at the AA level.
Both the U15AA and U18AA have enjoyed playoff success in the 2022 Saskatchewan Female Hockey League (SFHL) playoffs.
The Warman U18AA Wildcats enjoyed a bye in the first round of the playoffs on the strength of their second place finish in the North Division of the SFHL.
In round two they took the best of three series in straight games over the North East Aces with a 7-2 victory at home on March 7 and 5-4 road win. on Friday, March 11.
In the Friday game the Wildcats’ Heather Gust scored with 25 seconds left to break the 4-4 tie and propel Warman into the next round.
Taelyr Ballard scored in each period to earn her hat trick. Bobbi Lightburn scored the other Warman goal.
They now move on to play the Saskatoon Comet Legends for the North Division Championships.
Game one is set for Wednesday, March 16 in Saskatoon at the Kinsman Arena.
Game two will be in Warman on Friday, March 18 at the Diamond Arena.
Game three if necessary will be in Saskatoon on March 20 at the MB Community Rink.
The U15AA Wildcats advanced to the provincial semi-finals with 2-1 and 5-3 wins over the South-East Whitecap Goldwings.
After a 6-2 win over the Regina Rebels in Regina on March 11, the Wildcats were looking for a series clinching win when they hosted the Rebels on Sunday, March 13.
The home team got off to a good start when Hannah Hoberg took a pass from Alexis Randall and tucked it past Regina goalkeeper Cypress Classen.
But the visitors had other plans and responded with a pair of second period goals by Felicia An and Keeley McMaster.
Warman tied the game before the end of the period when Kolbee Ashe took a pass from Mikiya Anderson and broke in alone on Classen and was able top deke the goaltender out and slide the puck into the net with 24 seconds left in the period.
The Wildcats were looking to take the lead when they were on the powerplay mid-way through the third period.
An outstanding effort by Regina’s Aryanna Lang really turned the tide in the game when she was able to gain control the puck deep in Warman’s zone and score a shorthanded marker .
Regina then added two more late third period goals by Jade Thompson and Anna Benoit to come away with a 5-2 win and force a game three in Regina on Wednesday, March 16.
