The Warman Wildcats got back on the winning track with a pair of home victories over the past weekend.
They’re hoping the trend continues as they host the Swift Current Legionnaires at the Legends Centre in Warman Monday, February 21 at 2:30 p.m.
First up last weekend was the Tisdale Trojans.
It proved to be what was needed to end Warman’s three-game losing streak. The Wildcats feasted on the basement-dwellers of the Saskatchewan Male AAA Hockey League (SMAAAHL). coming away with a 11-0 win.
Warman goaltender Alex Worthington only had to make 11 saves in earning the shutout.
On offence, Warman peppered Tisdale starting goaltender Cody Wilson with 29 shots through two periods. Backup Brady Kashuba faced another 14 shots in the third period.
Warman’s Rhatt Deknowy got the home team on the board with a power play marker midway through the first period. Jaydon Jessiman and Mason Bueckert added a pair of unassisted goals before the end of the period.
Connor Gabriel scored a pair of power play goals to start a five-goal second period barrage.
Affliate player from the Wildcats U18AA, Nic Fiolleau, scored his first SMAAAHL goal with a blast from the top of the face off circle.
Jeter Korte deposited the puck into a open net on a quick wrap-around.
Jessiman scored his second of the game to end the period.
Mason Bueckert, Carsyn Dyck and Gavin Sawatzky added markers in the third period.
The Sunday tilt against the Battlefords Stars was a much closer match-up. The Wildcats came away with a hard-fought 3-2 win.
Warman’s Jayden Jessiman first period goal gave the home team an early lead. The Stars tied it when Dawson Gerwing scored with five seconds left in the period.
Home Game star of the game Carsyn Dyck restored Warman’s lead when he blasted the puck into the net on a beautiful setup pass from Brock Evans.
Dyck gave the home squad a valuable insurance goal midway through the third period when he found the twine on a great pass from Mason Bueckert.
It was insurance that was needed as Matthew Dament scored at 1:06 after the Stars had pulled their goalie for an extra attacker.
The Wildcats won the resulting face off and were able to control the puck and come away with the important win.
They currently sit in second place with a record of 31 wins 8 losses and 1 overtime loss for 63 points. This puts them six points behind the Notre Dame Hounds and one point in ahead of the Saskatoon Blazers.
The Wildcats have three games in hand over the Hounds due to contests that were postponed earlier in the season.
The need to play games postponed in January due to Covid protocols results in a very busy schedule to end the regular season for the Wildcats.
Including the two games played this past weekend they will be playing five games in eight days. In addition to playing the regularly-scheduled game against the Saskatoon Blazers on Wednesday, February 23 they host the Swift Current Legionnares on Monday, February 21 (rescheduled from January 7) and the Regina Pat Canadians (rescheduled from January 15).
They will end the regular season travelling to Regina on March 5 to play a game rescheduled from February 15.
