There’s a new sponsor in the driver’s seat at the Saskatoon Stock Car Racing Association (SSCRA) track.

SSCRA President Andrew Clewes and SSCRA Marketing Manager Neil Schneider announced on Tuesday, February 8 that Sutherland Automotive will be the naming partner of the member-owned racetrack from 2022 to the end of the 2026 race season.

The new name for the track is the Sutherland Automotive Speedway.

The deal with Sutherland Automotive replaces the previous six-year agreement that carried the Wyant Group Raceway title.

“The deal with the previous sponsor was a great partnership for everyone involved,” said Schneider. “And this new agreement is also beneficial. It provides financial stability for the club and the track, and gives tremendous visibility to the sponsor.

“We’re very excited to have Sutherland Automotive on board. They’ve been a long-time supporter of the sport, going all the way back to the Bridge City Speedway days.”

“Our relationship with the Wyant Group over the past six years was nothing short of exceptional,” said Clewes. “We are extremely pleased and excited to build on this new partnership over the next five years with the well-respected and successful Sutherland Automotive organization.”

Eric and Teresa Knogler, owners of Sutherland Automotive with operations in Saskatoon, Prince Albert, North Battleford and Moose Jaw, serve a wide swath within the automotive parts sector.

“We are thrilled to be joining forces with the Saskatoon Stock Car Association at the Sutherland Automotive Speedway,” said Eric Knogler.

“We hope to see everyone out for some tire squealing, seat gripping, adrenaline fueled action this 2022 season. It looks to be an exciting lineup this year and we would like to wish all competitors the best of luck. So come on out to Sutherland Automotive Speedway and catch the rip roaring, racing action!”

Located between Saskatoon and Martensville on Highway 12, the Speedway showcases national and international motorsport racing featuring several regular classes, including Super Late Models, Sportsman, Street and Mini Stocks, Legends, Pro Trucks, and Bandoleros.

The track also hosts periodic visits from other travelling racing classes.

The Sutherland Automotive Speedway is slated to host the Pinty’s NASCAR Series in 2022. Schneider said further details on the NASCAR event will be unveiled in the spring.

Schneider said the stock car club is heavily involved in the community. In addition to hosting the NASCAR event, the speedway has hosted monster truck shows and the Canada Remembers Air Show.

The SSCRA and Bridge City Speedway Inc. is a member-owned volunteer-driven organization founded in 1962. It was created to provide and promote the spirit of racing excitement for the community’s fans and race enthusiasts.

Sutherland Automotive first opened their doors in 1985 and has since grown into one of Saskatchewan’s premier suppliers of all things automotive. In addition, Sutherland Automotive has been a key partner with the SSCRA and Bridge City Speedway for many years and were a division sponsor of the fan favourite Thunder Stock division for a number of years at the Sutherland area track.
