The Warman U18AA female Wildcats handed the Regina Rebels their first loss of the season in Saskatchewan Female Hockey League action at the Warman Diamond Rodeo Arena on Saturday, December 11.
Wildcats head coach Dwayne Horner was happy with the result.
“This shows this team has the talent to beat any team in the league,” said Horner.
Chloe Horner got the Wildcats on the board in the first period when she scored on a pass from Bobbi Lightburn.
Taelyr Ballard increased the lead to 2-0 in the second period with an assist from Ella Stow.
Regina’s Nyah Lang cut the lead in half midway through the third period and the Rebels really put the pressure on during the last ten minutes.
“The team was holding their sticks a little tighter at the end,” said Horner. “They have a very good team and we knew it wasn’t going to be easy.”
Wildcats goalie Jensen Kelly was at the top of her game as she made some key saves in the final minutes
When Regina pulled their goalie for an extra attacker in the final minute, the Wildcats forechecked aggressively. Although they didn’t score into the empty net they were able to keep the puck out of their end and the buzzer rang giving the home squad the victory.
