The Martensville Marauders U15 AA is having an outstanding year both in regular season play and in major Western Canadian tournaments.
The team is 14 games into the season in the Sask. AA Hockey League (SAAHL) and has a record of 11 W, 2 L and 1 T putting them near the top of the SAAHL. Saskatchewan AA Hockey League (SAAHL).
In October they participated in the prestigious Graham Tuer U15 Challenge in Regina, which included 32 teams from across Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Alberta.
After placing first in their pool, they were defeated by the Saskatoon Stallions in the Quarter Finals.
Team captain, Kazden Mathies, lead the tournament scoring with 21 Points (14 Goals and 7 Assists) and was was also awarded the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Tournament, which was voted by the large number of Western Hockey League (WHL) and Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) Scouts in attendance.
The Marauders attended their second tournament of the season – the Medicine Hat Hockey Hounds U15 AAA Tournament on November 18-21, 2021. This is one of the longest standing tournaments in Western Canada, being its 48th Year. The tournament features 16 selected teams from Western Canada.
After a 4-3 loss to Okotoks in round robin, the Marauders won five straight to win the Championship 2021-Tournament;defeating Pilot Mound Academy (Manitoba) 5-1,Prairie Hockey Academy (Saskatchewan) 4-2, St. Georges School (Vancouver and 3 time Defending Champions) in the Quarter Finals 5-1,South East Athletic Club (SEAC) in Semi-Final 3-2 and
Okotoks 5-0 in the Final
This is the first time a Saskatchewan-based team has won the championship since 2001 and only the 6th time in the 48 year history.
Kazden Mathies again ended the tournament as the scoring leader, with 16 Points (8 Goals and 8 Assists)
All teams attended the Tournament Award Ceremony on Saturday and the Marauders were recipients of multiple awards. Kazden Mathies was the recipient of the Tournament Most Valuable Player (MVP), First All Star Team Selection and Top Forward. He also was the recipient of a $2,500 Scholarship sponsored by the Medicine Hat Tigers. This was his second MVP award in a major U15 tournament.
Carsen Adair was named to the First All Star Team as a defenseman.
Second year players (2007-born players) are starting their journey in the Sask First Program. Players competed December 3-5th in Aberdeen in the Regional Sask First Selection Camp and selected players will move on to the Top 160 Tournament in Regina over the Christmas holidays.
The ultimate goal is for Saskatchewan Hockey to select 20 players to represent Saskatchewan in the 2023 Canada Games in Prince Edward Island.
The Marauders will attend one last tournament – the Western Canadian Crown in Edmonton on January 14-16, 2022 – where they will have the opportunity to again play elite competition from Western Canada.
