Jeremy Sabilla (Osler school), Hudson Sawatzky (Hague High) and Jackson Friesen (Hague High) compete in the Bantam boys division of the CVAC Cross-Country District Championships which was held at River Ridge Trails on October 6

Area athletes clinched their ticket to the Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association (SHSAA) Cross-Country Provincial Championship after competing in a Central Valley Athletic Conference (CVAC) district competition on October 6.

The CVAC Cross Country District Championship was held at River Ridge Trails (north of Langham), which featured 130 athletes that competed in the respective bantam, intermediate, junior and senior divisions.

It was a very close finish in the bantam boys division, as Evan Kielo (Perdue School) just edged out Marcus Crowe (Martensville’s Venture Heights) after clocking in a time of 13.49 minutes; while Crowe finished at time of 13.50 minutes.

Riley Kielo (Perdue School) finished third while Cody Lewis (Langham’s Water W. Brown School) rounded out the top four, as the race was three kilometres.

In the bantam girls three kilometre race, Delaney McPhee (Hanley Composite) earned first place after finishing with a time of 14.04 minutes, while second place finisher Shylah Loewen (Waldheim School) wasn’t too far behind McPhee, as she recorded a time of 14.26 minutes.

Kassidy Adamus (Water W. Brown) placed third and Aidyn Konechny (Dalmeny High) finished in fourth. The top team in the bantam division was Dalmeny High.

It was a close finish in the intermediate boys three kilometre race, after Ty Randall (Clavet Composite) took first place with a time of 11.51 minutes and Ben Chabaylo (Waldheim School) placed second, clocking a time of 11.56 minutes. Hague High’s Ellijah Pawluck-Zacharias and Parker Zacharias placed third and fourth respectively.

In the intermediate girls three kilometre race, Skyler Dyck (Warman High) finished first with a time of 11.55 minutes. Alyssa Kielo (Perdue School) came in second place while Presley MacLeod (Osler School) and Jade Olszewski (Clavet Composite) placed third and fourth respectively. Hague High was the top overall team in the Intermediate division.

Jake Kessler (Warman High) was the winner in the junior boys division and recorded a time of 17.16 minutes in the four kilometre race. Ayden Lowndes (Clavet Composite) finished second with a time of 19.04 minutes, while Hayes Shirley (Allan Composite) and Will Coates (Delisle (Composite) placed third and fourth respectively.

In the junior girls four kilometre race, Tayen Werner (Walter W. Brown School) captured the district championship after finishing with a time of 20.14 minutes. Second place finisher Rhiann Arnold (Rosthern Junior College) wasn’t too far behind Werner as her final time was 20.56.2. Scarlett Ash (Allan Composite) placed third.

Ethan Randall (Clavet Composite) finished in first place of the senior boys five kilometre race after, while Carter Peters (Warman High) came in second. Derek Neufeld (Walter W. Brown) and Francisco Valle Rauda (Rosthern Junior College) place third and fourth respectively.

In the senior girls four kilometre race, Callie Steen (Hanley Composite) earned the top spot after finishing with a time of 17.40 minutes which was only a minute faster than second place finisher Elizabeth Wright (Clavet Composite). Adriah Buhler Warman High finished in third place while Katie Simonson(Clavet Composite) placed fourth.

The top 10 athletes in the respective intermediate, junior and senior divisions qualified for the provincial championship event which is scheduled to take place October 16 in Humboldt.
