The Warman Scared Scriptless Players (WSSP) are taking their final bow.

The community theatre group announced August 28 that it is disbanding; the latest casualty of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We wish to thank all our patrons throughout the years for all your continued support, especially this past year,” said WSSP President April Watson in an e-mail to supporters. “It is with heavy hearts that we have decided to close down Warman Scared Scriptless Players.

“COVID has put financial strain on all community theatres in Saskatchewan, and so we hope to help other theatres such as ours by donating what we have left to them.”

Watson said it is unfortunate the group was not able to perform its show ‘Mixed Nuts’ in March, 2020 when the pandemic hit.

“Many countless hours were spent rehearsing, memorizing lines, painting sets, building props, sewing costumes, planning menus, taping up flyers and so much more,” said Watson. “So much went into this play that we will never see, and although it was also many hours of fun spent together making memories, it leaves a sore spot in my heart to not be able to perform it for an audience.”

The WSSP began more than a decade ago as the Warman Drama Club.

The group is hosting its final annual general meeting on September 26 via Zoom.
