The number and value of building permits issued in Warman during the first six months of 2021 was more than 50% higher than the same period a year ago.
According to a report by the city’s Planning and Development department tabled at the July 19 Warman City Council meeting, there were 163 building permits issued between January 1, 2021 and July 6, 2021. The combined value of the permits amounted to $16,782,900.
That’s a big increase from the same period in 2020, when the city saw 139 permits issued worth a combined total of $10,271,940.
The biggest increase in 2021 so far in Warman has been the number of single and multi-family homes under construction. In the first six months of this year, permits were issued for 28 single family and five multi-family dwellings. The value of these residential permits was $10,273,100.
During the same time period last year, there were 16 single family dwellings built worth a combined total of $4,402,600. There were no multi-family residences built in the first half of 2020.
There has also been a rise in home renovations in the first six months of 2021. The City of Warman issued 110 permits so far for decks, basements, garages and additions, worth a combined total of $3,080,700; a substantial increase over the same period last year, when 102 permits were issued for renovations worth a combined total of $1,817,640.
The number and value of commercial building permits issued in Warman during the first six months of 2021 was down slightly from last year (20 projects worth $3,429,000 issued in 2021 so far; compared to 21 worth $4,051,600 in the first six months of 2020).
The City of Martensville is also seeing an increase in construction activity this year over last.
Statistics posted on the city’s website by the Martensville Planning and Development department showed that in the first six months of 2021, a total of 142 building permits were issued worth a combined value of $13,289,977.
So far this year, the City of Martensville issued permits for 15 commercial buildings, six institutional buildings, six single family dwellings and 31 multi-family dwellings; as well as 61 permits for renovations and additions and 35 for ‘other’ developments.
Construction activity so far in the RM of Corman Park, meanwhile, has more than doubled over last year.
According to the RM’s planning and development department, there were 149 building permits issued in the first six months of 2021. The total value of those permits was $49,274,939.
In the first six months of 2020, by comparison, there were 75 building permits issued in Corman Park worth a combined total of $17,405,397.
The biggest residential project in the RM of Corman Park this year so far is a $2 million addition and renovation to a home in Greenbryre Estates.
The single biggest commercial permit was issued for a $975,000 project in East Cory Light Industrial Park.
And a $250,000 addition is being added to a barn on an intensive livestock operation in the RM of Corman Park.
