Vacationers in provincial parks can once again light campfires.
On Monday, July 19, the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) announced it was lifting the fire ban in provincial parks, crown lands and the Northern Saskatchewan Administration District effective immediately.
The fire ban was implemented July 2.
The SPSA said the decision to lift the fire ban was based on cooler weather and recent rainfall across much of the province..
However, there are still fire bans in place in many areas. Some municipalities, including the RM of Corman Park, continue to experience a high fire risk.
The SPSA continues to encourage municipalities to examine the fire risk in their local area and reminds the public to practice fire safety. Fire ban updates are posted daily on municipal websites.
Anyone who spots a wildfire can call 1-800-667-9660, dial 9-1-1 or contact their closest SPSA Forest Protection Area office.
People can find the latest fire risk maps and municipal fire ban map at www.saskatchewan.ca/fire.
Established in 2017, the SPSA is a Treasury Board Crown Corporation responsible for emergency management, Sask911, SaskAlert, the Civic Addressing Registry, wildfire management and fire safety.
