Firefighters from the Martensville and Dalmeny departments battled a wildland fire in a field near Lutheran Road (Township 382) just west of Range Road 3053.
The Martensville Fire Department (MFD) responded to the fire around 12:55 p.m. on July 15. The blaze was threatening the numerous power poles in the area as some caught fire.
After about a half-an-hour on scene MFD requested for mutual-aid and that is when Dalmeny Fire Rescue responded to the scene.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire in the vicinity of where it started. Heavy smoke was affecting the visibility on Lutheran Road near Loras Landfill, as Corman Park Police responded to the scene to help direct traffic.
The fire was deemed under control at 3:50 p.m as it took some time to put out the hot spots.
The cause of the fire was due a bird getting caught in the power lines, which caused sparks, igniting the grass fire.
