The City of Martensvsille is looking to tap into federal gas tax funding to help offset the cost of  ambitious roadway repair projects this summer.

A motion to proceed with applications to finance the projects under the federal gas tax funding program was passed at the June 15 meeting of Martensville City Council.

The city is seeking a total of $577,300 in funding from the federal program for five projects. The city has already allocated $569,000 in this year’s budget for the work, and is hoping the grants will cover the total cost.

The projects are all slated to be done this year.

The Area One project includes a section of 6th Avenue South between 4th Street South and Fehr Court/Fehr Crescent.

The Area Two project is for the rehabilitation of a section of 8th Avenue South between 4th Street South and 1st Street South.

Area Three, the most extensive of the five projects, involves a section of Main Street between 2nd Avenue North and 8th Avenue South.

The Area Four project includes Baycroft Drive from 3rd Street North to a point just north of Baycroft Place.

The Area Five project involves a section of 6th Street North from Klassen Crescent to 8th Avenue North.

Meanwhile, seasonal road work is continuing across the city, with asphalt patching and manhole adjustments being made. According to a report from the city’s public works department to the June 15 council meeting, some service connections are also being repaired.

Street sweeping has wrapped up, with every street in Martensville having received at least one pass. Crack sealing began last week on Priority 1 streets, and line painting is expected to begin as soon as the crack sealing operations are finished.
