Martensville High School (MHS) Grade 12 graduates are hoping Martensville City Council will approve a community-wide celebration in their honour planned for later this month.
Martensville City Council will vote on a request from the MHS Grad Parent Committee at its meeting on Tuesday, June 15.
The committee is asking council to donate $1500 to pay for a fireworks display the evening of Thursday, June 24. The committee is also asking for council’s endorsement of a parade through the city streets showcasing the graduates on Friday, June 25.
Martensville City Council provided a $1500 grant for fireworks in 2020 and also approved a parade last year for graduates of the high school.
The request from this year’s MHS Grad Parent Committee was tabled at a city council committee of the whole meeting on Tuesday, June 8. The request is likely to be endorsed by council at the upcomign meeting, as there is already money in the city’s 2021 budget for the fireworks.
Several councillors spoke in favour of the request at the committee of the whole meeting, noting it provides the community to honour the achievements of this year’s graduates in a public way.
