Dalmeny Daycare has begun construction on a long-awaited childcare centre, with an anticipated opening in the fall of 2021. The project is being built by Quorex Construction Services Ltd.
The centre is the first government-subsidized licensed daycare facility within Dalmeny serving the community and surrounding area. There will be space for 35 children.
The journey has been a long one. Work began in 2011 with the formation of a non-profit corporation. It was quickly followed by the Government of Saskatchewan awarding funding for 33 spaces.
The Board has worked tirelessly to secure land and funding while facing many hurdles along the way.
Board Chair Alisa Perrin said the most rewarding aspect of the project has been the dedication of the Board of Directors, who have persevered through several challenging obstacles.
Perrin said she feels a sense of reward now that the building is currently under construction.
Perrin and Scott Burant are two of the original board members from 2011 who no longer need the service when the centre opens; but both know the investment in the community is vital for new families.
Baylie Sinclair, another Board member, said childcare centres are essential to every community to support working parents.
“One of the hardest things in parenting is trusting someone else to look after your own kids,” said Sinclair.
Dalmeny Daycare aims to provide high quality childcare, with opportunities for children to develop socially, emotionally, cognitively, and physically through loving childhood educators.
The Board appreciates the efforts of the various individuals and businesses who continue to contribute funds and support to the project. Most recently, Granny B’s restaurant in Dalmeny created a raffle with fabulous prizes. Tickets are available at the restaurant and the draw is June 7, 2021.
Cash donations toward the project are still being accepted at the Dalmeny Town Office.
