Provincial lottery funds totalling $74,243 are being distributed to non-profit community organizations in Martensville.

Martensville City Council passed a resolution at its May 18 meeting approving the 2021 annual allocation of Sask Lotteries Trust Funding to 26 community cultural, recreation, sports and service organizations.

The funding comes directly from proceeds from lottery ticket sales across the province. Municipalities are provided with funds every year based on their population. Funds are distributed through the municipalities to non-profit groups based on applications from those groups. No funds are retained by the municipality, although some funding is allocated directly to city programs.

The City of Martensville received a total of $66,743 in lottery funds based on its 2016 census of 9,645 residents.

The city also was provided with $7,500 by the RM of Corman Park from its provincial lottery funds in recognition that residents outside city limits utilize city facilities and services.

The organizations in Martensville receiving lottery funds include: New Horizons Centre ($6,000); Martensville Information and Visitor Centre ($3,000); Buster Days Committee ($3,000); Martensville Library ($1,000); High School Girls Soccer ($500); High School Girls Basketball ($500); High School Girls on the Move ($1,000); Martensville and District Lions Club ($5,000); Martensville Seniors Pickleball League ($4,500); Venture Heights School ($2,000); High School Gender and Sexuality Alliance ($400); High School Boys Soccer ($400); High School Football ($1,000); High School Weight room ($1,000); Lake Vista School ($2,000); Martensville Maddogs Football ($5,000); Skate Martensville ($2,700); Martensville Minor Hockey Association ($5,000); Martensville Community Recreation Project Buster Days Tournament ($500); Martensville Amateur Softball Association (5,000); Sask Five Giants Baseball ($3,000); Martensville Slo-Pitch ($3,000); Martensville Minor Soccer ($5,000); Martensville Curling Club ($4,000); 574 Dakota RCACS Air Cadets ($4,500); Sask Valley Riding Club ($1,000); and Valley United Soccer Club ($4,743).
