The following is the occurrence summary for April 19 – 26.
On April 19 at 6:30 p.m. Corman Park Police were patrolling in the area of Valley Road and Hodgson Road when they observed smoke rising from a nearby property. Police attended at the residence and found that there was a fire pit with an active fire burning in it and that it was unattended. A man came out of the house and spoke with police. The man advised that he did not know there was a fire ban. It was explained that the RM has had a fire ban on for several weeks due to dry conditions. The man was issued a bylaw ticket for setting a fire during a fire ban. It is everyone’s responsibility to check the RM website at rmcormanpark.ca before lighting a fire in the RM. All fire ban notices are posted here.
On April 24 the Corman Park Police Service kicked off its first SGI High Visibility Enforcement Checkstop. This was the first in a twelve month long pilot project to determine the suitability of such a program in the RM of Corman Park. Officers were located on Clarence Avenue at Middleton Road from 9:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m. which resulted in two motorists being arrested for impaired driving and driving over .08. One individual had a blood alcohol concentration of .14 mgs, while the other was at .13 mgs. Additionally, four other motorists had their license suspended and vehicles impounded for having a blood alcohol reading over .04 mgs. Impaired driving continues to be a concern in rural Saskatchewan and we are excited to have partnered with SGI to tackle this issue more aggressively. Corman Park Police have arrested 46 impaired drivers so far in 2021.
On April 25 at 10:20 a.m. police received a call from 911 that someone had seen two people riding a train west of Saskatoon. It was reported that the two subjects were on the exterior of a hopper car. CP Rail was contacted and the train was stopped west of Saskatoon. On April 26 at 12:20 a.m., Corman Park Police stopped a grey Mitsubishi Lancer on Valley Road near Township Road 360 to check for driver sobriety, driver’s licence, registration and mechanical fitness. The vehicle was being driven by a male, who verbally identified himself to police and indicated that he did not have his driver’s licence with him. Police noted there was a female passenger in the car as well. Police observed open alcohol in the vehicle. A check on the driver’s licence revealed that the man did not match the photo provided for the name he gave. The driver was arrested for obstructing police and personation. The man then revealed his true identity, which was confirmed. The man, a 38-year-old resident of Saskatoon, was found to be a suspended driver. The female passenger, a 22-year-old resident of Saskatoon, was also given tickets for open alcohol and possession of untaxed tobacco.
