The Saskatchewan RCMP has arrested a suspect in the murder of Cindy MacKay, which happened in February 2020 in Meota, Sask.

Thirty-eight year-old Michael MacKay, who was married to Cindy MacKay, faces one count of first-degree murder. Officers arrested recently arrested him without incident on Thursday, March 18 in Warman in relation to her death.

On February 7, 2020, Cindy MacKay was transported to the hospital.  She was in medical distress and later died in hospital on February 12, 2020.

Following her death, healthcare professionals raised concerns to the RCMP, which prompted an investigation.

As a result of the complex investigation, conducted by the RCMP Major Crime Unit North and the RCMP Historical Case Unit North, the Battlefords RCMP Detachment, the Battlefords RCMP General Investigation Section, and RCMP Forensic Identification Section, an arrest was made on March 18, 2021.

Micheal MacKay makes is scheduled to make his first court appearance on March 19 in the North Battleford Provincial Court via telephone.
