The Warman Female U15 AA Wildcats continued their hot start to the season after picking up back-to-back wins over the Prince Albert Lehner Electric Foxes.
Warman earned a 7-4 win on November 13 in Prince Albert, and then Wildcats won 7-3 at the Warman Rodeo Diamond Arena on November 15.
With these two recent wins the Wildcats are on a four-game winning streak, and head coach Vance Heaney is impressed with the team’s work ethic.
“They’re a great bunch of girls. They’re a strong team, they’re committed to each other, they work hard in practices, and they’re buying in to what we need them to do,” he said.
In the second game against Prince Albert, the Wildcats struck first in the opening period when Kolbee Ashe netted a short-handed goal.
The Wildcats continued to bring pressure in front of the Prince Albert goalie, and from the low slot Cassidy Peters scored.
About a minute after Peters’ goal Hanna Eberle netted a short-handed goal to give her team a 3-0 lead.
Late in the period, Prince Albert was able to cut into the Warman lead, but the Wildcats still led 3-1 after 20 minutes of play.
Warman played very well in that first period, and the Wildcats set the tone of the game with their physical play.
“We always talk about our standard,” Heaney said. “As soon as they come out they know what our standard is and what we want to see them do. And this group of girls, they come out hungry and are committed, and it’s fun to watch them play.”
The Wildcats continued to bring that energy in the middle frame which led to an Alexie Palchinski goal within the first two minutes of the period.
However, Prince Albert didn’t back down and the Foxes started to stage a comeback after netting two goals, to pull within one.
“All of the teams in this league are great teams, so you know they’re going to come back, you know they’re going to push back. So we got to watch out for that and
handle that adversity and respond back,” Heaney said. “The girls had to learn from that and keep pushing because there are no easy games in this league.”
The Wildcats did battle back from that adversity and recorded two unanswered goals of their own, to take a 6-3 lead going in to the final period. Ashe netted another short-handed goal and also scored on the power-play for the hat trick.
Warman played very well defensively in the third period and didn’t allow the Foxes to score. Ashe also scored her fourth goal of the game to put the cap on a great offensive game from the team.
“Kolbee Ashe had an amazing game and she was on fire again, putting the puck on net,” Heaney said. But all three lines were committed and we got offense from all three lines.”
Heaney was also impressed with the aggressive forecheck the team displayed throughout the game, which contributed to the win.
Warman’s next game is on the road against the Northwest Sharks on November 21. The Wildcats are scheduled to battle the Sharks again the following day at the
Warman Rodeo Diamond Arena. Puck drops at 1:30 p.m.
