A 25-year-old Martensville man is facing several charges following his arrest by RCMP officers in that city.

Martensville RCMP Sergeant Curtis Little said officers in the detachment initiated an investigation on Wednesday, November 4 into a series of bicycle thefts in the 500 block of 1st Street South in Martensville.

As a result of the investigation, three bicycles and numerous parts believed to be stolen were recovered.

Little said 25-year-old Dayton Gavin of Martensville has been charged with three counts of possession of property under $5000, along with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a concealed weapon and two counts of breach of undertaking.

This is the second time in three weeks that the male has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime for similar offences. He was remanded to appear in court in Saskatoon on Thursday, November 5.

The Martensville RCMP encourages residents to lock their bicycles and to discuss with their children ways to keep their property safe.

“Over the past several weeks there have been a high volume of calls related to theft of bicycles and related property,” said Little. “Many of which were reported stolen from front yards.”

Residents are welcome to phone Martensville RCMP if they suspect their bicycle might have been recovered and are able to identify it.
