The following is the occurrence summary for October 5 – 12.

On October 8 at 2:48 p.m. Corman Park Police received a call of a grass fire near Dalmeny on Range Road 3055. Officers attended the area with the RCMP and the Dalmeny Fire Department. It was quickly realized that the fire was burning out of control and was threatening several properties.

A decision was made to evacuate the area residents due to the risk that the fire was posing. Fire crews worked until approximately 2:00 a.m. to get the fire under control and then spent several more days monitoring it for flare-ups. No houses or buildings were lost.

Some property was damaged or destroyed. No one was injured and no livestock deaths were reported. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

On October 9 at 3:10 a.m. Corman Park Police were patrolling in the area of Clarence Avenue and Grasswood Road in the RM of Corman Park when a black Chev Silverado truck was observed at the side of the road with several people standing around the vehicle.

One male was throwing up and police stopped to determine if the man required medical assistance. Police quickly determined that the people had all been in the vehicle and that they were all showing signs of alcohol consumption to one degree or another.

During the investigation it was determined that a 23-year-old male resident of Beauval was the driver of the vehicle. The man displayed signs of impairment from alcohol and was arrested by police for impaired driving. The man lashed out against the arresting officer and kicked him.

While the police officer was trying to bring the man under control he resisted arrest and fought back and at one point grabbed the officer’s pistol while it was holstered. Back-up arrived and the man was brought under control and handcuffed. He was taken to the Saskatoon Police Service where he provided breath samples of 150 mgs%, almost double the legal limit. The man was held in custody and is facing charges of impaired driving, driving with a blood alcohol over the legal limit, assaulting a peace officer, assault with intent to resist arrest and attempting to disarm a police officer.

The officer suffered minor injuries and was treated at hospital and released the same day.

On October 9 at 11:00 p.m. Corman Park Police and the Saskatoon RCMP were operating a Checkstop on Highway 11 and Tamke Road to check for impaired drivers. Police stopped a white Ford Explorer being operated by a 37-year-old female resident of the RM of Aberdeen.

When questioned by police, the woman advised she had not consumed any alcohol prior to driving. The woman was read a mandatory breath demand and provided a sample of her breath into a roadside screening device which resulted in a reading of WARN.

It was observed that there were two children under the age of 15 in the vehicle and the woman’s licence was suspended for 7 days as a result instead of the normal 3 days. Her vehicle was also impounded for 7 days. The law in Saskatchewan designates that the suspension is longer when children are found to be in the vehicle.

On October 12 at 12:15 a.m. Corman Park Police observed a red Chev Cruze traveling at 130 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on Highway 219 near Grasswood Road.

The vehicle was stopped and the driver, a 29-year-old male resident of Saskatoon, admitted to consuming one beer prior to driving.

Police administered a roadside breath test on the man who provided a sample of breath the registered as a FAIL. The man was arrested and taken to the Saskatoon RCMP Detachment where he provided two breath samples that analysed at 140 mgs%. The man’s driver’s licence was suspended, his vehicle was impounded and he was later released on charges of impaired driving.
