The Martensville 1 Peewee Maddogs dropped a 39-0 decision to the Steelers, during Kinsmen Football League action, on October 4 in Martensville.
The Steelers found the end zone four times in the first quarter to take a commanding 26-0 lead.
All of those touchdowns came on the ground, as the Steelers ball carriers made some shifty moves, making it hard for the Martensville defence to make the tackle and stop the run.
The Maddogs were able to build momentum early in the second quarter on a successful third down play, but couldn’t sustain the drive and turned the ball over on downs.
On the ensuing Steelers drive, Martensville’s defence had the visitors in a third down situation, looking for a big stop near midfield. However, not only were the Steelers successful on that third down, but the play also resulted in a long rushing touchdown.
Just when it looked like the Steelers were going to put more points on the board, the Martensville defence came up with an interception which lifted the spirits of the Maddog players, in a game that got away from them in the first half.
Despite being down by a large margin, Martensville continued to battle in the second half and the Maddogs only allowed one touchdown in the final two quarters.
Even though the Maddogs didn’t find the end zone there were more positive plays in the second half.
On offence, the Maddogs had a couple of passing plays that went for big yards and the defence recorded another interception.
All though it was tough loss for the Maddogs, the players still gave it their all and did not give up.
The Maddogs look to rebound from that recent loss in their next game against the Warriors on October 18 at Saskatoon Minor Football Field. The Steelers are also in action on the 18th and will battle the Panthers.
