Tyson Chillog is seeking a fifth term on Martensville City Council.
First elected to a council seat in 2006, Chillog was returned by voters in the 2009, 2012 and 2016 municipal elections.
This time around, there’s a decidedly different atmosphere as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, said Chillog in an e-mail to the Gazette.
“I feel that these times that we find ourselves in creates uncertainty, especially in our economy and our general well-being” he said, adding that elected representatives need to take those uncertainties into account when they make decisions.
“We don’t know what the future holds, and nobody has all the answers,” said Chillog. “We need to use our best judgment based on the best information we have available.”
Chillog said his priorities over the coming term include ensuring community safety and providing civic services and amenities to enhance residents’ quality of life while being fiscally responsible.
He said he wants to keep business and residential taxes as low as possible without reducing city services or programs.
Chillog said he wants to see a strong business sector. “The economy is one of my priorities,” he noted.
He said over the next four years, he would like to see additional amenities, including the completion of the first phase of the new multi-purpose recreation facility.
Additional seniors’ housing, the continuation of the city’s road rehabilitation program, and completion of additional phases of the Kinsmen Park Master Plan are ongoing projects Chillog said he is committed to in the coming term.
