The following is the occurrence summary for August 17 – 24.
On August 17 at 12:24 a.m. Corman Park Police observed a Mercury Grand Marquis vehicle northbound on Highway 11 at the Warman overpass. The vehicle was observed to be speeding at 129 km/h in the 110 km/h zone and it had a burned-out headlight. Police followed the vehicle for a short distance and observed some weaving. The vehicle was stopped by police and the driver, a 29-year-old male resident of Saskatoon, had the odour of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. Police read the man a breath demand to which he complied, the result was a FAIL. The man was arrested and taken to the Martensville RCMP Detachment where he provided breath samples of 170 and 150 mgs%. The man was released a short while later on charges of impaired driving and excess blood alcohol.
On August 20 at 10:37 p.m. Corman Park Police conducted a traffic stop of a black Dodge Charger on Highway 12 north of Saskatoon. The driver, a 36-year-old female, identified herself with a Saskatchewan driver’s licence. Police investigation revealed that the driver was at large on conditions to abide by a 10:00 p.m. curfew. When police attempted to arrest the woman she fled in the vehicle at high speed from police. Police did not pursue the woman because her identity is known. The woman is now being sought by police on charges of Breach of Probation, Obstruct a Police Officer and Flight from Police.
On August 23 at 12:01 a.m. Corman Park Police were travelling on Highway 16 east of Saskatoon when they observed a blue Chrysler 300 travelling at a high rate of speed eastbound on the highway. Police obtained a radar reading of 183 km/h on the vehicle in a 110 km/h zone. Police radioed ahead to another police vehicle to intercept the car, and when a patrol was made, police located the vehicle abandoned in a ditch adjacent to the highway. Canine and air support units from the Saskatoon Police Service were contacted and assisted in the search for the occupants of the vehicle. After approximately one hour of searching, police located two females hiding in hay bales on a nearby farm property. The driver was identified as a 33-year-old female from the Broadview area. The passenger, a 23-year-old female from Regina, was also arrested. The women were taken to the Saskatoon RCMP Detachment where the driver faces charges of dangerous driving, flight from police and impaired operation of a conveyance.
During the week of August 17-24 Corman Park Police issued ten suspensions for driver’s operating with a blood alcohol level in excess of .04 milligrams, the Provincial limit. The Corman Park Police have a policy of conducting mandatory breath tests on all drivers stopped by police between the hours of 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. The mandatory breath test was recently tested in a court challenge on a Corman Park case and was found to be constitutional in the Provincial Court. Approximately 40 percent of the Corman Park Police cases that result in charges against impaired drivers have been the result of the mandatory breath demand.
