Firefighters from Warman and Martensville successfully extinguished a wildfire in a field southeast of Warman.

The fire was reported at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, August 19.

Warman Fire Rescue (WFR) firefighters responded with a wildland truck. Martensville Fire Department (MFD) was called in to provide mutual aid at 2:20 pm.

Columns of thick black, grey and white smoke could be seen for many kilometers The fire was fanned by a northwesterly breeze.

The fire was in a field east of Range Road 3050 and south of Township Road 384.

Fire crews set up a command post at a farmyard west of the fire, where they utilized portable water tanks to provide water to fight the blaze.

In addition to wildland trucks and pumpers, firefighters utilized specially-equipped all-terrain vehicles in order to quickly move to different areas as the fire shifts direction.

The perimeter of the fire was contained by 2:30 pm, and the fire was declared under control at 2:35 pm.

Martensville Fire Department personnel were released from the scene at about 3:30 pm. Warman firefighters remained on scene for an additional hour, mopping up hot spots  No buildings were threatened by the fire.
