Molly Olivia Dunville

A small park in Martensville’s MacCormack Ranch neighbourhood has a new name.

The park on MacCormack Road beside the ‘Ranch House’ is now known as ‘Molly’s Park’ in honour of Molly Olivia Dunville.

Martensville City Council approved the new name for the park at a video-conference meeting on Tuesday, July 21. The city’s Naming Committee had recommended the change.

Molly Olivia Dunville passed away at the age of four on April 17, 2020. She was born November 15, 2015 and was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a type of cancer, just before her first birthday. Over the past three years, she carried on a brave battle with the disease.

Molly lived across the street from the small park which now carries her name with her parents and two older sisters. The park was one of her favourite places. The family made the request to council to name the park in her honour earlier this summer.

In her obituary on the Cherished Memories website, Molly Dunville is described as “full of energy and curiosity and had a fight inside of her that would border on superhuman. Some of Molly’s favourite places will forever be missing her special spark.”

Molly was a student at the Busy Fingers Playschool in Martensville. She loved swimming and riding the water slides at the Martensville Aquatic Centre.
