Martensville and Warman fire departments responded to a large house fire on Charity Cove in Martensville on Monday morning, July 6.
Occupants of the home were able to self-evacuate. One woman who was inside the house at the time of the fire was assessed by paramedics at the scene. There were no reports of any injuries.
Martensville Fire Department responded at about 9:00 a.m. on Monday, July 6 to a report of a structure fire. Initial reports suggest the fire may have started in a vehicle parked in the garage of the home.
The fire quickly spread and the entire home was engulfed in flames in a matter of minutes. When Martensville firefighters arrived on scene they immediately called in Warman to assist.
A huge black plume of smoke could be seen many kilometers. Several vehicles were burning in the driveway of the house that is on fire.
Firefighters used a mixture of foam and water to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to neighbouring homes.
The fire was quickly brought under control within about 45 minutes. However, fire crews continued to put out hot spots throughout the structure for another hour. By 11:15 a.m. the fire was declared to be completely out. The house was completely destroyed in the blaze; however, the two houses on either side were both saved and did not appear to suffer any serious damage.
A GoFundMe page has been set up by Sharel Grodesky to assist the homeowners. In her GoFundMe post, Grodesky states: “My sister and her daughter’s home caught on fire this morning. She has no insurance and lost everything. Anything donated is appreciated since she has to completely restart and has no belongings. My sister also has a baby on the way.”
