The following is the occurrence summary for April 27 to May 4.
On April 28 at 2:50 p.m., Corman Park Police received a call of a grass fire at Township Road 374 and Range Road 3063. Police attended and learned from a land owner that they had started a small fire in a pit to burn yard waste and that the fire had spread out of the pit and got into grass in an adjacent field. Saskatoon Fire attended the area with multiple vehicles and took several hours to extinguish the fire. No charges were laid as there was no fire ban in place at the time of the incident. Roads had to be closed for a short while to facilitate firefighting efforts.
On April 30 at 3:45 a.m., Corman Park Police responded to a call for assistance from the Saskatoon Police Service airplane, who advised that city police units were pursuing a grey Chrysler car northbound on Highway 12 from Saskatoon. The vehicle was being pursued for property and drug offences committed in Saskatoon. Corman Park Police set up at Highway 12 and Township Road 400 and waited for the fleeing vehicle, which was being monitored by the police aircraft. Corman Park Police laid a spike strip and successfully spiked the tires of the fleeing vehicle. The vehicle came to a stop on Highway 12 at Township Road 404 where Corman Park Police, Saskatoon Police and RCMP members took a male and two females into custody for various property, weapons and drug offences. The three accused were taken to city police headquarters for processing.
On April 30 at 2:50 p.m., Corman Park Police observed a white Cadillac STS westbound on Valley Road near Highway 60 in the RM of Corman Park. The vehicle was stopped by police to conduct a driver’s licence and registration check. The police officer noticed the smell of an alcoholic beverage on the breath of the driver. When questioned, the driver admitted to a couple of drinks a couple of hours prior to driving. Police made a breath demand and the driver, a 34-year-old male from Saskatoon, provided a sample into a roadside screening device which yielded a result of WARN, which is a blood alcohol level in excess of 40 mgs%, but less than 80 mgs%. As it was the second time the man had received an administrative suspension, his licence was suspended for 21 days and his vehicle impounded for 7 days.
On April 30 at 7:00 p.m., Corman Park Police attended in the area of Paradise Beach on Range Road 3063 south of Valley Road. The park gates were closed and numerous cars had been noted parking on the roadway outside of the gates contrary to the RM parking bylaw. Police observed numerous people on the beach area and made note of several of the cars. At 7:45 pm one of the cars, a green Mazda Protégé, was observed northbound on Valley Road with four males inside. Police stopped the vehicle to check for driver’s licence, registration and driver sobriety. The driver, a 20-year-old male resident of Saskatoon, denied consuming any alcohol prior to driving. The driver was read a mandatory breath demand and he provided a breath sample into a roadside screening device, the result of which was a FAIL. The man was arrested for impaired driving and transported to an area RCMP Detachment where he provided two breath samples at 80 mgs%. The man was released on charges of impaired driving and his licence was suspended and vehicle impounded.
