Despite a strong second-place finish in the regular season standings, the Martensville Royals saw their provincial championship hopes blown away by gale-force winds on Saturday, October 24 .
The Royals dropped a 14-0 decision to the visiting North Battleford Comprehensive Vikings during their SHSAA 5A 12-a-side playoff semifinal. The loss meant the end of the road for the Royals’ playoff run.
The third-place Vikings, meanwhile, punched their ticket to take on the first-place Prince Albert Carlton Crusaders in next weekend’s conference final. The winner of that game will play the 5A 12-a-side champion from the Saskatoon league, with the victor moving on to the provincial final against the southern champion.
In nine-man high school football, the Delisle Rebels claimed first place in the 4A Conference Four standings with a 31-7 win over Kindersley, and will begin their playoff run next weekend.
In 2A 6-a-side SHAA football, the Rosthern Community School Longhorns, which finished second in Conference 3, will take on the Conference 2 first place finisher Clavet Composite School Cougars in a semi-final playoff game on October 31.
