Having now finished their regular season, the Martensville Royals football team are now gearing up for the first round of North Saskatchewan Football League (NSFL) playoffs.

The Royals just played their final game of the season against the Prince Albert Carlton Crusadders at Wilson Field on Friday, October 16. Though the Crusaders maintained a lead for much of the game, the Royals were able to tie up the game 28-28, forcing the game into overtime.

Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for Prince Albert to score a touchdown and win the match 32-28.

According to Tyler Munday, a teacher at Martensville High School and member of the coaching staff, the Royals ended up finishing second in the NSFL with a record of 3-1 in league play and 4-1 overall.

Munday said the loss against Carlton was their only defeat of the season, adding that they finished in the same spot last year as well.

When asked on how the season has gone, Munday said that after graduating 22 players in the 2025 season, including many of the leaders who helped drive their success, this group has “embraced the challenge and exceeded expectations.”

He added, “The boys are playing their best football of the season at the right time, and we’re excited to see what they can accomplish as we head into the playoffs.”

The Royals’ first playoff game will take place at Wilson Field by Martensville High School this Saturday, October 24. The Royals will be hosting the North Battleford Vikings. Game time is at 1 p.m.
