Prairie Spirit School Division trustees passed a motion during their September 21 board meeting to increase the base annual allowance for the board chair from $5,000 to $7,500 and to add a base annual allowance of $2,500 for the vice chair.
The motion amended Appendix D (Schedule of Compensation and Expense Allowance), which outlines how the chair, vice chair and each trustee is compensated for attending board meetings and division-related activities, including their travel allowance.
The base annual allowance of $7,500 for the board chair and $2,500 for the vice chair are paid out over a 10-month period running from September to June.
A spokesperson for the Prairie Spirit School Division said the updated base allowances for the chair and vice chair recognize “the increased responsibilities and expenses associated with these leadership roles.”
The spokesperson noted that certain board activities that were compensated through indemnity claims are now included in the chair and vice chair base allowance “to provide greater budget certainty and streamline administration.”
WHS Construction Shop
Trustees also approved the name of a new construction shop for Warman High School: Zak’s Building Lab.
This is in recognition of Zak’s Building Group as a major sponsor of “this exciting new opportunity for senior students,” the PSSD spokesperson said.
It should be noted the construction shop is not yet built, but the spokesperson indicated that it will be a free-standing structure behind the school and next to the shop compound.
