Letian (Tina) Liu is having a banner season on the links.
The 17-year-old Warman golfer began the year on a high note, capturing the Dallas Spring Junior Open Championship in Plano, Texas during a two-day tournament March 14 and 15.
She followed that up with a Maple Leaf Junior (MJT) tournament win at the Legends Golf Club in her home town August 29-30 and another MJT tournament championship in Nisku, Alberta, September 5-6.
In between she placed second in the Saskatchewan Junior Women’s Championship tournament at the Legends Golf Club July 7-9, second in an MJT tournament in Humboldt June 13-14, and made the cut at the Canadian Junior Girls Championship in Toronto August 11-14, ending up in a four-way tie for 54th spot.
But she’s not just making a mark on Canadian courses. The young golfer is on the radar south of the border as well.
She also achieved an impressive 13th-place finish at the Future Champions of Golf (FCG) Junior Tournament at the Encenitas Ranch Golf Club in Encenitas (near San Diego), California August 4-6.
She added a very respectable 14th place finish to her resume at the FCG Collegiate National Championship in Encenitas July 21-23.
She also tied for 16th place at the HJGT Rio Pinar Spring Junior Open in Orlando, Florida, April 11-12.
During her most recent championship outing at the MJT tournament in Nisku, Alberta, she put together great rounds of 78 and 76, including five birdies. She also drained a 40-foot putt on the sixth hole to finish at 154 and come away with the Girls 15-19 honours.
After the tournament, she said her approach remained deliberately measured: “Play everything safe, aim for the middle.”
