Trucks from across Saskatchewan will take to the highway on Saturday, October 3, for the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run Truck Convoy and Truck Pull in support of Special Olympics Saskatchewan.
The convoy will depart from SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon at 8:30 a.m., led by members of the Saskatoon Police Service. It will travel south to Regina, with a brief stop in Chamberlain, before arriving at the Turvey Centre around noon.
In Saskatoon, the convoy will follow this route:
North on Thatcher Avenue from SaskTel Centre
East on Marquis Drive
South on Idylwyld Drive
East on Circle Drive
South on Circle Drive, under the overpass and out of the city
Members of the public are encouraged to find a safe place along the route to watch the trucks and show their support.
Members of the Regina Police Service will meet the convoy in Regina and help guide the trucks safely to the Turvey Centre. Their support will continue at the Truck Pull, where a Regina Police Service team is already registered to compete.
The Truck Pull will take place at the Turvey Centre following the convoy’s arrival. Teams of 8 to 10 people will compete to see who can pull a semi-truck across the finish line in the fastest time. The event brings together law enforcement members, truck drivers, businesses, volunteers, and supporters for a day of friendly competition and fundraising.
“The Truck Convoy and Truck Pull are a lot of fun, but they also make an important difference,” said Rhae-Ann Holoien, Executive Director of Special Olympics Saskatchewan. “The money raised helps provide year-round sport opportunities for more than 1,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities across Saskatchewan. We are grateful to the drivers, law enforcement members, teams, sponsors and volunteers who make this event possible.”
The Truck Convoy is part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, an international movement that brings law enforcement members and communities together to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics athletes.
