Both the Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association (SHSAA) and the Kinsmen Football League (KFL) football programs are kicking off brand new seasons this month,
On the high school front, the Martensville Royals are one of five teams in the 5A 12-A-Side North Saskatchewan Football League North Conference, along with the North Battleford Comprehensive High School Vikings, Prince Albert Carlton Crusaders, Prince Albert St. Mary Marauders, and Lloydminster Comprehensive High School Barons.
The Royals begin their regular season on the road with a match-up in Lloydminster on Friday, September 18.
The Delisle Rebels are the only area school in the 4A 9-A-Side SHSAA football program. They’re one of five teams in Conference 4, along with North Battleford John Paul II Crusaders, Humboldt Mohawks, Meadow Lake Spartans and Kindersley Kobras.
The Rebels kicked off the season with an exhibition game against the visiting Moose Jaw Vanier Vikings on Thursday, September 5. They open their regular season on the road against the Humboldt Mohawks on September 11.
Rosthern Junior College is one of five teams in the 1A 6-A-Side SHSAA football program, along with the Hafford Vikings, Macklin Sabres, Plenty Wildcats and LCBI BIsons. They kick off their regular season with back to back games against the Sabres – beginning with a road game in Macklin on September 18; and hosting the Sabres on September 25.
This year, the Rosthern Community School Huskies football team trades one traditional rival for another.
The move from the 1A 6-A-Side program to the 2A 6-A-Side program means they won’t be going up against the cross-town Rosthern Junior College squad; but they will be once again facing the Hague Panthers – a match-up that guarantees big crowds for games in both communities.
The calendars are marked for September 17 at 2 p.m. when the Huskies host the Panthers in Rosthern; and for October 2 at 4 p.m. when the Panthers welcome the Huskies to Hague.
The season kicks off September 10 for the Huskies when they travel to Wakaw to take on the Warriors; and September 11 for the Panthers when they host the Shellbrook Aardvarks.
The Clavet Cougars are in the 2A 6-A-Side (Conference 2) football program along with the Assiniboia Rockets, Rosetown Royals and Davidson Raiders. The Cougars first game of the regular season is September 11 when they play the Rockets in Assiniboia. Their first home game is September 17 when they host the Rosetown Royals.
MARTENSVILLE MADDOGS
The Martensville Maddogs are returning to their familiar home field in Martensville for the 2026 Kinsmen Football League (KFL) season.
Both the KFL Hilltops Division Maddogs and the Huskies Division Maddogs kick off their regular seasons against the Babineau Warriors at Saskatoon Minor Football (SMF) Field on Sunday, September 13. The Hilltops Division Maddogs game starts at 12:30 p.m. and the Huskies Division game goes at 2:15 p.m.
The first home game for both teams is the following Sunday, September 20 when they host the Ledingham Steelers in Martensville. Game time for the Hilltops Division Maddogs is 1 p.m. and the Huskies Maddogs game starts at 3 p.m.
