Halfway through the 2026 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games in Medicine Hat, Team Saskatchewan is proving that success is measured in far more than medals.
From podium finishes and personal best performances to unforgettable moments of sportsmanship, friendship, and determination, Saskatchewan’s athletes are proudly representing the province on the national stage.
Competing in athletics, rhythmic gymnastics, basketball, bocce, golf, powerlifting, soccer, softball, swimming, and 10-pin bowling, Team Saskatchewan athletes have been setting new personal bests and demonstrating the courage and perseverance that defines Special Olympics.
“Every athlete who wears the Saskatchewan jersey has already achieved something extraordinary,” said Rhae-Ann Holoien, Executive Director of Special Olympics Saskatchewan. “We are celebrating every medal earned, every personal best achieved, every teammate encouraged, and every friendship formed. These Games remind us that true success is found in giving your best, supporting one another, and representing your province with pride.”
The Games have been filled with inspiring moments—competitors cheering for athletes from other provinces, teammates celebrating each other’s accomplishments, volunteers and coaches providing unwavering support, and families sharing in the excitement from home. The Opening Ceremonies on August 11, 2026, were incredible, and the Law Enforcement Torch Run leading up to the lighting of the Flame of Hope was impactful.
Team Saskatchewan’s coaches and mission staff have also played a vital role in the team’s success, preparing athletes over the past year and ensuring they have every opportunity to compete at their highest level.
“The spirit of these Games has been incredible,” added Holoien. “Our athletes continue to inspire everyone around them through their courage, resilience, and joy. Whether they return home with a medal, a personal best, or a new lifelong friend, every member of Team Saskatchewan has made our province proud.”
The 2026 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games continue throughout the week in Medicine Hat, where Team Saskatchewan athletes will compete for more medals while continuing to showcase the values of inclusion, excellence, respect, and friendship.
