June has been proclaimed as Parks and Recreation Month recognizing the important contributions of community park spaces and recreation professionals in our province and their positive impact on our quality of life.
“Parks and Recreation Month is a reminder of all the benefits that parks and recreation spaces have to offer in our province,” Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Alana Ross said. “Staying active is essential for our physical and mental health. Our government is proud to join the Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association in celebrating Parks and Recreation Month.
“This year, Saskatchewan Provincial Parks are offering free entry on June 6, 2026, for National Trails Day. This is an opportunity for everyone to get outdoors and explore new trails and experience our provincial parks.”
The Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association is a provincial, non-profit organization dedicated to connecting, educating and inspiring recreation and parks providers. This year’s theme “Explore. Connect. Belong.” focuses on celebrating all the different ways that Saskatchewan’s parks and recreation spaces help us explore, connect and belong.
“Parks and recreation play a vital role as the heartbeat of our communities, supporting our physical and mental wellbeing while bringing people together,” Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association President Darcy McLeod said. “Throughout our province, these spaces create opportunities to explore our surroundings, connect with others and foster a true sense of belonging. This June, we are encouraging everyone from across Saskatchewan to celebrate the many ways these spaces enrich our lives and strengthen our communities.”
The Sask Lotteries-funded parks and recreation system provides thousands of recreational opportunities for residents and visitors.
Sask Lotteries benefits more than 12,000 sport, culture and recreation groups in communities across Saskatchewan. Proceeds from Sask Lotteries support a wide range of sport, culture and recreation programs, services and initiatives throughout the province.
