By CHIEF ROBERT DUTTCHEN, Corman Park Police Service
On December 24, 2025, at approximately 10:10 p.m., members of the Corman Park Police Service (CPPS) were conducting traffic monitoring and speed enforcement along Highway 7 near Range Road 3065. Officers observed a Ford F-150 with Alberta license plates, consistent with a rental vehicle, travelling eastbound toward Saskatoon. A CPPS member caught up to the truck, confirmed it was a rental, and initiated a traffic stop.
A member of the Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) attended to assist in verifying the occupants’ identification, as false identification had been presented. Before officers could complete the arrests, the vehicle fled the scene. Due to prior suspicion regarding the vehicle and its occupants, a tire deflation device had been deployed in advance. The fleeing vehicle struck the spike belt, and while a pursuit was initiated, it was discontinued after the vehicle hit a second tire deflation device.
SPS members later stopped the vehicle, arresting both occupants. One was found to be wanted on a Canada-wide immigration warrant.
On January 1, 2026, at approximately 3:23 a.m., CPPS members responded to a head-on collision on Highway 219 near Grasswood Road. CPPS, Saskatoon RCMP, Medavie Health Services West, and the Saskatoon Fire Department attended. Both drivers, who were the sole occupants of their vehicles, were pronounced deceased at the scene. One of the vicitms was a 28-year-old man from Wadena; the other was a 58-year-old man from Saskatoon. The highway remained closed for an extended period while an RCMP collision analyst investigated. The Saskatoon RCMP continues to investigate the incident.
Later that same morning, on January 1, 2026, at approximately 8:15 a.m., a vehicle approached a traffic control point manned by a CPPS member related to the earlier fatal collision. The officer recognized the driver as someone with a history of impaired driving. The CPPS member initiated an investigative traffic stop on the suspect vehicle.
The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, displayed several signs of drug impairment. An oral fluid test yielded a positive result for cocaine. While the officer was completing the impaired driving documentation, the suspect approached the police vehicle and uttered threats toward the CPPS member. Choosing to avoid escalation, the officer continued processing the impaired driving charge and referred the threat complaint to the Saskatoon RCMP for follow-up investigation.
On January 2, 2026, at approximately 11:45 p.m., CPPS received multiple reports of a suspicious male walking along Highway 41 east of Saskatoon, inadequately dressed for the cold conditions. CPPS and Saskatoon RCMP members attended. Using the CPPS drone, officers followed footprints in the snow and located a male passed out under a piece of cardboard inside a garbage bin.
The individual was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place and transported to the Saskatoon RCMP detachment, where he was lodged in cells for the night.
