The Twin City Angels U17A team had a strong initial showing but ultimately fell short in the playoffs at the U17 Women’s Fast Pitch Canadian Championship in Warman from July 30 to August 3.
The national championship took place at Prairie Oasis Park with the Twin City Angels serving as the host team. The event featured a total of 22 teams battling it out in elite-level competition.
The Angels started out with a 3-2 victory over the BC5 Richmond Islanders on July 30, then followed up with an 8-0 shutout versus the New Brunswick U17 Selects later that evening.
The Angels played a single game on July 31 versus the BC2 White Rock Renegades, defeating them 4-1.
On August 1, the Angels squeaked out a narrow 7-6 win over the AB1 Lloydminster Liners before taking their first loss on Friday evening against the ON2 Brampton Blazers by a score of 9-5.
Their 4-1 record earned the Angels a spot in the playoffs, but unfortunately for them, their first game on August 2 was against the AB3 Calgary Adrenaline, who would go on to win the championship against BC1 Fraser Valley Fusion.
The Angels were defeated by Calgary by a score of 5-2, giving them only one chance to advance in the playoffs.
Unfortunately, their opponent was the White Rock Renegades, who avenged their earlier loss to the Twin City Angels by a score of 8-4. The Renegades went on to win the bronze medal at the national tournament.
While the Angels were unable to win the national championship, two of their players — pitcher Emma Frisky and catcher Ashlyn Chatfield — were named to the All-Star Team.
The event marked the first time the Twin City Angels and the City of Warman have hosted a national event. The organizing committee posted a statement on the Softball Canada website that gave credit to the many volunteers who helped make it a success:
“On behalf of the Host Committee, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended the 2025 U17A Girls’ Canadian Fastpitch Championship. Your enthusiasm, energy, and support helped make this event an unforgettable celebration of softball.
“We were proud to welcome talented teams from across the country, each bringing their skill, dedication, and love for the game to the field. The level of competition and sportsmanship we witnessed was truly inspiring.
“Events like this wouldn’t be possible without our amazing fans, volunteers, coaches, officials, and community partners. Thank you for helping us showcase top‑level softball and create lasting memories for these athletes and our community.”
