Two players from Clavet and one from Martensville have made the final roster for Saskatchewan’s 16U female baseball team, which will compete in the Canada Summer Games in St. John’s Newfoundland and Labrador, August 8-25.
This marks the debut for female baseball as a sport at the Canada Games. One of the reasons for its inclusion is the growing popularity of the sport among girls of all ages.
The players recently named to Team Sask include Andie Marshall of Martensville, and Ava Hill and Beth Sarauer, both of Clavet.
It will be a busy summer for Andie Marshall as she is also on the Hockey Sask U16 Sask First Top 40 that have their Summer Camp in early August. Last winter, she starred with the Warman Female U15AA Wildcats hockey club, scoring 17 goals and adding 18 assists for 35 points in 25 games. Next season she will play for the U18AAA Prince Albert Mann-Northway Northern Bears.
Ava Hill was named the 2024 Baseball Sask Minor Female 14U Player of the Year.
Beth Sarauer is a multi-sport athlete who excels in golf as well as baseball.
Other players to make Team Sask include: Kendall Grimes (Arcola), Victoria Bateman (Regina), Cassandra Bishop (Saskatoon), Criseyde Borthwick (Prince Albert), Makenna Dobrowolsky (Saskatoon), Taylor Schueller (Saskatoon), Camden Suchan (Humboldt), Paetyn Lenius (Saskatoon), Brenna Birdsall (Saskatoon), and Paisley McHarg (Saskatoon).
The Summer Games feature 17 sports, including baseball, softball, track and field, rugby sevens, sailing, canoe/kayak, diving, swimming, basketball, cycling, golf, lacrosse, soccer, tennis, volleyball and wrestling.
