EDITOR’S NOTE: This story was updated at 1:50 p.m. on June 16 with new information regarding charges.
Two suspects – an adult male and a youth – are facing a litany of charges in relation to a non-lethal stabbing that took place at a Martensville business Friday, June 13.
According to a release, the Warman RCMP received a report at approximately 9:55 p.m. that evening of an assault with a weapon that took place at a business in the 200 block of Centennial Drive North.
Officers responded immediately and located an adult male victim with injuries consistent with stab wounds. After they provided first aid to the victim, EMS attended the scene and transported the victim to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers also learned of a second victim, a male youth who had been physically assaulted but not stabbed. He had already been transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
An initial investigation determined there were two suspects – an adult male and a male youth. They had entered the business, and a physical altercation took place between them and the two victims. Investigators determined this incident was not random in nature.
The Warman RCMP arrested the youth suspect at the hospital where he had gone to seek treatment for his injuries and then tracked down the adult male at his residence in Martensville.
A third male youth was also apprehended at a gathering in Martensville, but he was later released without charges.
Saskatchewan RCMP’s Police Dog Services and Saskatoon Forensic Identification Section assisted with this investigation.
As a result of the continued investigation, a 17-year-old youth from Martensville (who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act) has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of assault with a weapon, one count of assault causing bodily harm, one count of carrying a weapon for a dangerous purpose and one count of mischief under $5,0000. He was set to appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court on June 16.
The court information for the adult male’s charge has not yet been sworn, so the RCMP are unable to provide further details.
