Students at Bishop James Mahoney School in Saskatoon will be collecting donations of non-perishable food in Martensville and Warman this Friday and Saturday, October 30-31 as part of a larger “Halloweening for Hunger” Campaign.
According to a release sent out on October 27 by Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools (GCCS), students at St. Joseph High School in Saskatoon have been leading the “Halloweening for Hunger” initiative for two decades now, going door-to-door collecting a cumulative total of over 220,000 pounds of food for the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre.
However, many other schools also encourage their students to make a similar difference in their communities. To that end, Bishop James Mahoney students will be making the rounds in Martensville and Warman in addition to their designated Saskatoon neighbourhoods.
The release states that students have been delivering flyers to homes on their routes so that residents can prepare ahead of time.
In addition to handing over donations of non-perishable food to students knocking on your door, residents can also leave their donation outside with the informational flyer that students may have delivered earlier. Alternatively, they can attach a note saying the donation is intended for the food drive.
The donations will then be loaded on to trucks headed to the Saskatoon Food Bank on Monday, November 2, in the case of St. Joseph High School and Tuesday, November 3 in the case of Bishop James Mahoney.
